Ash Chen

Hi, I’m Ash 🙂 I’m a queer artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Charmed by moments of  peculiarity and play, a lot of my work is rooted in observing interactions — the converging of  two or more things and allowing those moments and feelings to invite some kind of curiosity.  Observing disruptions and their consequences. A rock has fallen on an ant pile. Within seconds  the ant pile swallows the rock and all you can see is brown and black static. Observing time and  the results of it’s passing. What comes with the slow death of someone you love.

Recently in the studio I’ve been experimenting with glazes, noting how certain forms or sculpts  in the clay inform the movement of these glazes in the kiln. I am inspired by many things but  blame the water and the things that live in it that speak deeply to my curiosity. There is  something spectacular about moving through water so effortlessly.

When I’m not at the studio you can find me documenting/collecting things, making music, being  outside in the sun, enjoying solo time with friends and being entertained by my cats. and always  snacking.
